A year long after-school program

Girls aged between 14-17 years old.

The program curriculum has been designed by mental health professionals, surf coaches, nurses, social workers and activists.

PROGRAM

<aside> 🏄🏿‍♀️ SURF MODULE

Designed to break down stigma, improve self-esteem, perseverance and global health, this module includes two surf lessons per week where our girls develop their swimming skills, are introduced to the practice of surfing and expand their mind through sea love, ocean conservation practices and surf sisterhood.

<aside> 👐🏿 PSYCHOEDUCATION MODULE

Once a week, girls have a group psychotherapy session where they learn how to identify & express emotions, seek help and process trauma.

<aside> 🙇🏿‍♀️ ACADEMIC MODULE

Created to foster a love for learning and increase school success rates, our classroom is a focused space where our girls can study, do their homework and develop study, work and lifelong learning skills.

<aside> 💪🏿 EMPOWERMENT MODULE

Once a week, girls gather for group activities that promote self-esteem and confidence such as debates on the role of women, sexual and reproductive health education.

SOMA ALSO PROVIDES…

Alongside with the program, each girls receives a one-to-one form of support from a volunteer who guides her in her SOMA journey with

• Weekly home visits
• Monthly school meetings with each head of year
• Sporadic meetings with each girl’s parent/guardian </aside>

• 1 daily snack;
• Scholar tuition fees and supplies;
• Menstrual kit (reusable pads and underwear);
• Surf gear (board, leash, fins, wax) + swimwear and towel;
• Transportation to and from activities;
• Access to computers and the internet for academic purposes;
• Activities material (yoga mats, stationary, etc);
• Birthday cake and celebration

After completing the first year of this program and before graduating from SOMA on the Professional Program (at 18 years old), each girl has a free pass to attend and join the SOMA club community.
